31-March-2008

Photos of a small to medium sized gull taken at Virginia Lake a small lake in Reno, NV. The gull was approximately the same size as near by Ring-billed gulls with a slightly darker mantle. The bill on this gull seems thicker than the typical Mew Gull. ID is uncertain at this time. The possibility of a hybrid has been proposed.

As of April 12th, 2008 the general consensus is, that this is a California Gull - either a hybird or an odd runt. This is based on the Wing Pattern, mantle color, a bit of reddish color on the gonys.
